Welcome to Choose Swim, our swim school for babies, children, and adults of all abilities. Our lessons follow a structured Swim England framework and allow children to work towards attaining badges and certificates for progressive development.

Learning to swim is a fundamental life skill that everyone should have an opportunity to develop, so take the first steps and join us today!

We have designed our swimming journey with Swim England’s support to ensure that whatever the starting point, your child or you will grow in confidence and skill in and around water.

Learning to swim is a key life skill, helping your child or you to stay safe and enjoy the water, whether swimming in a pool, open water, or the sea. 

Our lessons are £25.50 per month via direct debit and our lesson programme runs for 50 weeks of the year with a 2-week break at Christmas. 

We currently offer:

  • Babies, Toddlers & Pre-School lessons
  • Primary school age lessons (from 4yrs - 11yrs)
  • Adult lessons

Adult Swimming Lessons - £25.50 per month

With four progressive stages and awards to choose from, our adult swimming lessons are suitable for all adults, from complete beginners through to those who are more confident swimmers but want to improve their technique and overall ability.   

It’s never too late to learn to swim and our lessons are perfect for teaching this vital life skill, as well as keeping active in a social and relaxed environment! For ages 16+.

  • Dearne Valley Leisure Centre
  • Rossington Leisure Centre
  • Thorne Wellbeing & Leisure Hub

Pre School

Discovery Ducklings - £25.50 per month

Babies aged between 0-2 Years

  • A parent/guardian in the water with their child
  • Discovery Ducklings includes 4 Awards - see criteria below
  • Maximum of 6 children per class.
  • Children can access free swimming across DCLT (excluding Big Splash)
  • For babies, we would advise you to check with your health visitor for advice before they start swimming.

Duckling Awards are the next step on from the Discovery Duckling Awards.

  • The instructor is in the water with the children
  • Ducklings includes 4 Awards - see criteria below
  • Maximum of 6 children per class.
  • Children can access free swimming across DCLT (excluding Big Splash)

Learn to Swim Stages 1-3

Children age 5+

£25.50 per month

  • We follow the Swim England Learn to Swim Scheme.
  • Each stage has its criteria and outcomes for your child to work towards.
  • Children are continually assessed in their lessons and as parents have access to a home portal to track your child's progress.
  • Children can access free swimming across DCLT (excluding Big Splash)
  • When booking your child into these stages, we would ask you to ensure your child can confidently complete the criteria of the previous stage you wish to book - See the criteria below
  • Your child will be assessed on their first lesson and if we feel they cannot confidently complete the previous stage criteria, we will need to move your child to the correct stage, we would endeavour to find a suitable class, however, we would not be able to guarantee availability in the required stage.

Bronze Challenge Awards

Post Stage 7 Awards

£25.50 per month by Direct Debit

  • Each Challenge Award has its criteria and outcomes for your child to work towards.
  • Children are continually assessed in their lessons and parents have access to a home portal to track their child's progress.
  • Children can access free swimming across DCLT (excluding Big Splash)
  • When booking your child into these challenge awards, they need to have already completed the learn to swim program up to stage 7. 
  • Your child will be assessed on their first lesson and if we feel they cannot confidently complete the previous stage criteria, we will need to move your child to the correct stage, we would endeavour to find a suitable class, however, we would not be able to guarantee availability in the required stage.

Children Swim Lessons FAQs

They will need to wear suitable swimwear and bring a towel. If they wish, they can wear goggles during their lesson. You'll also need a pound coin or locker token for the lockers, and you may want to bring shower gel and shampoo for use in the showers after their lesson. 

Also, please ensure that they do not consume large amounts of food or drink and that they use the toilet before their lesson starts.

 You will receive a link via an e-mail directing you to the Home Portal. This will give you your options for the next stage. Once you have selected your option your child will move to this new session automatically.

You will receive an e-mail once your child has been awarded a certificate this email will contain a link directing you to the website to purchase a badge and a certificate, this will then arrive to you in the post

If you have not already done so at the point of joining lessons, you can inform us of your child's medical condition , please inform the teacher on your first visit.. This will assist our teachers when delivering lessons and this information will remain confidential.

Please let us know if your child is ill and they will not be attending their lesson.
If they have had diarrhoea or sickness in the 24 hours prior to their lesson they MUST not attend their lesson. They may still be able to pass on this illness to others during this period. 
If your child is ill for a short period, i.e. four weeks, you can continue to pay for their lessons and retain their space or cancel and join again once they have recovered. Please note refunds will not be given for lessons you are unable to attend.

Yes, the monthly subscription paid for lessons covers fifty weeks of the year allowing for two weeks when there are no lessons.

Your child will be able to access swim 4 all sessions free of charge across the DCLT sites as part of choose swim membership.

You will need to book via the DCLT website, using your child's DCLT account. Your username will be the email address your used when sign your child onto swimming lessons.  You will then need to request a forgotten password to setup the account.

if your child is under 8 years old, you are required to stay at the centre, either in the pool viewing area or changing area for the duration of their lesson.

No, it is not allowed to film or take any pictures in the viewing area, swimming pool or changing area at any time.

Adult Swim Lessons FAQS

Our adult swimming lessons are from 16 years upwards and are for all levels and abilities.

Each adult will be assessed on the first lesson and allocated a class based on ability that will fit their needs and lesson criteria.
